Picture 1 & 2 Purchased at Goodwill for $1.99! Signed lithographs by San Francisco artist Louis Macouillard circa 1950.
Louis Macouillard (1913-1987) was born in San Francisco, CA in 1913. He studied at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland and at the Art Students League in New York. During the 1930’s through 1950’s Louis Macouillard painted local cityscape scenes of the Bay Area. This print is probably from the earlier years of that time. He exhibited with the Thirteen Watercolorists group locally in the bay area. He served as a Lieutenant in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. His watercolors from that time appeared in Life magazine. After the war returned to the Bay Area of San Francisco and continued to paint; spending part of his time in the city and part of it at his studio home in Sonoma. He died in San Francisco in 1987.
Picture 3 & 4 Found at Goodwill priced at $13.99 or something ridiculous like that. Mine is actually a gift to someone from the artist and is signed. I won’t say what the inscription says, I’d hate for the artist to see this and know that that nice gal he gave a signed print to donated it to the Goodwill!
So, two really great pieces of art by San Francisco artists. Score!
